The 2015 AppsAfrica Innovation Awards have just taken place in South Africa and the winner of this year’s Women in Tech Innovation Award is Emefa Kpegba, the founder and CEO of e-Technopole from Togo. Emefa’s OMobile Funding platform, which is a crowdfunding and microfinance platform for local technology innovators, won the award against stiff competition.
OMobile Funding has a different business model in that it encourages funding to come from younger entrepreneurs in the country itself who want to be part of a new and vibrant entrepreneurial culture, without having to wait for overseas funders and angel investors to provide the funding sources. Emefa’s aim is to motivate African women in particular to leverage tech to become innovative social entrepreneurs in order to achieve positive change in Togo, Africa and around the world.
LoA spoke to Emefa to congratulate her on the AppsAfrica award win and to find out more about her new crowdfunding platform and its impact on the entrepreneurial environment in Togo.
