The results of Kenya’s Top 100 Mid-Sized Companies Survey, an initiative of KPMG Kenya and Nation Media Group, have just been announced. The survey identified the country’s fastest growing, medium sized companies in order to showcase business excellence and highlight some of the country’s most successful entrepreneurship stories. Flora Mutahi, founder of Melvin’s Tea, was awarded with the prestigious Top Manufacturing Award at a special ceremony on 5 December.
Speaking about this latest award win, Flora Mutahi said: “We are truly honored to win the Top Manufacturing Firm Award in the Kenya’s Top 100 mid-sized Companies Award Ceremony 2019. Melvins Team would like to thank you all for your support. We are who we are because you inspire us every single day, pushing us to do our best to provide the best products and service for you. We’d also like to thank KPMG Africa, Business Daily and Kenya Association of Manufacturers for the initiative to recognize the best and fast-growing mid-sized companies in Kenya and congratulate all the contestants.
The Top 100 Mid-Sized Companies Survey provides the basis for the selection and ranking of the Top 100 Mid-Sized Companies. The survey collects general and financial information from all participating companies. In addition to the Top 100 ranking, the survey provides insights into the key market dynamics, industry benchmarks, human resource development, business confidence, future expectations, obstacles to growth, drivers of success and more. In order to qualify for the Top 100 Mid-Sized Companies, a company must meet the following criteria: Turnover in the range of Kshs 50 million to Kshs 1 billion; audited accounts for the financial years ending in 2015, 2016 and 2017; not listed on a stock exchange; not a bank, insurance company, law firm or accounting/auditing firm. The Top 100 Mid-Sized Companies are selected from all participating companies on the basis of their revenue growth over the past three years, profits, liquidity and other measures of financial solidity.
The Kenya Top 100 Mid-Sized Companies Survey said, “We strongly believe that there is a need to celebrate the entrepreneurs that have contributed to wealth and job creation in this country. Our intention, therefore, is that new role models and national heroes will emerge from the survey.”
