Startup Story
For Georgina Angélica, her business motto is: “Cada necessidade um recurso”, which translates as, “For every need, a resource”. In her specialist education and professional development consultancy, she lives by that motto, providing courses and workshops for local educators to meet all needs.
LoA chatted to entrepreneur Georgina Angélica this month to learn more.
What does your company do?
I am providing consultancy and professional development courses to local nurseries and schools, and course participants are entitled to a certificate for their participation.
“My main business product offering and asset to my clients is my experience, reputation and the knowledge I have acquired over the years. My passion for learning is a great drive as well.”
What inspired you to start your company?
After working for several years in the best school in Luanda (Luanda International School), I started to get really worried and felt uneasy with the local educators’ professional development in other settings and how their lack of high pedagogical quality is affecting the children under their care throughout Angola. I then decided to act for change and create a transformational educational project with an initial focus on the foundation of all education - Early Years Education.
It is common to talk and be sensitive to children's development, but how about the adults that are supposed to enhance their learning? If there isn't a thorough investment in professional development courses, workshops, and so on, then how can they improve their their own holistic development and that of the children in their care? My main business product offering and asset to my clients is my experience, reputation and the knowledge I have acquired over the years. My passion for learning is a great drive as well.
Why should anyone use your service or product?
I have a vision for Angola and Africa where educational agents are qualified and valued through professional development. My mission is to offer solutions and empowerment plans tailored to the needs of the educational agents through consulting and professional development. The values I stand for are respect, empathy, passion, social responsibility, professionalism and transparency.
This project has been developing in my mind and heart for several years now. By elevating local teachers, school directors, coordinators and year level leaders, we will elevate children and through this elevate all of the Angolan and African society.
“I have a vision for Angola and Africa where educational agents are qualified and valued through professional development.”
Tell us a little about your team
That's why it is so important to have this exposure through the Lionesses of Africa platform. I don't yet have a team, but it is one of my goals to build a team that will support me throughout all my plans and spread my pedagogical beliefs through Angola and the world.
Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?
It is a recent journey that was accompanied by a profound personal development adventure. I had to go deep and find what truly resonates with me and the legacy I want to leave. It is my first entrepreneurial project, but I am very confident of the need and success that this project will have in Angola and Africa.
What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?
I will have an Early Years Academy with labs, courses, workshops, speeches, therapies - where I will build an 'army' of high reflective, innovators, empathic, compassion, emotional intelligent educators (Parents, early years educators, directors, coordinators, leaders and so on). I will first be a reference point in Angola, then in other Portuguese speaking countries, and finally the rest of the African continent.
“My mission is to offer solutions and empowerment plans tailored to the needs of the educational agents through consulting and professional development.”
What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?
Being my own boss and the freedom to put what I believe into practice.
What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?
I strongly believe that you need to have a clear vision and mission to drive all your steps, so you don't get lost when the challenges come. I feel that a mentor to guide you is also a great asset to success.
