LIONESS WEEKENDER COVER STORY
At the latest Start-Up Night Africa London event in January, one eco-fashion brand got people talking, with its timeless luxury design combined with a strong sustainability story. LUNAR headed by CEO and Creative Director, Nicola Luther, launched its new SpringSummer2020 collection at the event, and is now promoting it to its global customer base.
Over the past 21 years, LUNAR has firmly established itself as one of South Africa’s leading eco-fashion brands, inspired by the natural beauty of the African landscape. Thanks to this close affinity with nature, Nicola Luther and her creative team at LUNAR are intimately aware of the effects of their actions as designers and manufacturers, and try to lessen their impact on the earth. They do not claim to be experts or purists in this regard but rather responsible designers leading the sustainable fashion movement in South Africa.
As company CEO and Creative Director, Nicola knows the brand’s USP is its strong focus on great design, quality craftsmanship, and sustainable local production for a global market that is becoming increasingly conscious of where and how clothes are made. LUNAR’s beautiful new collection is inspired by the stark lines of minimalist architecture. Throughout the collection LUNAR experiments with clean lines and proportions; contrasting these with soft, feminine draping, creating a beautifully understated, sophisticated aesthetic. The LUNAR brand is a perfect fit for the modern woman who is both discerning, stylish, as well as environmentally and socially conscious.
What makes Lunar different in the marketplace is that it is a proudly South African eco-fashion brand that is able to offer beautiful, sustainable and responsibly produced womenswear to a global market. LUNAR uses only 100% natural fabrics. This is both for the comfort of the wearer as well as being less harmful to the planet. The quality garments are crafted with timeless design and added durability that is both sophisticated and stylish, made to last years whilst still maintaining its quality and design appeal. Responsible production with fair wages and an emphasis on job creation and female empowerment are also high on LUNAR’s list of priorities. All its clothing is ethically produced in Africa to world-class quality standards.
Speaking about launching the latest LUNAR collection recently in London, Nicola said:
“We feel deeply honoured to have had the opportunity to launch our new SpringSummer 2020 at Start-Up Night Africa London as part of the UK-Africa Investment Summit 2020. The Summit was hosted by UK's Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, bringing together businesses, governments and leading international institutions, and we at LUNAR feel deeply privileged to have been part of this amazing and game-changing group.”
