Djamila da Sousa is a Mozambican designer based in Maputo with two Bachelors degrees in Fashion and Textile Design from IED in Milan and Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand, together with a Masters in Cool Hunting (trend Forecasting) from IED Milan. She has worked as an accessories production assistant for Tessutti Mimma Gini in Italy, as a designer assistant for Mu in New Zealand, as a kitchen designer at Intercasa and for Taibo Bacar in Mozambique. In 2015 she co-founded Karingana wa Karingana Textiles with Wacy Zacarias. With Karingana they've been changing the narrative on African textile stories by creating story telling prints and developing textiles for private and Corporate clients.
