Dr Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, founder of CTPH (Conservation Through Public Health) and Gorilla Conservation Coffee launched the premiere of a great Team Gorilla song, performed by famous Ugandan music artist #Gasuza, on Spotify to celebrate World Gorilla Day on 24 September 2020.
Although every day is Gorilla Day for Dr Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka and the team at CTPH (Conservation Through Public Health) and Gorilla Conservation Coffee, on 24 September 2020 the World joined hands to celebrate these majestic animals - our closest non-human relatives! To mark the occasion, and to make World Gorilla Day 2020 more impactful and memorable than ever before, CTPH teamed up with Ugandan music artist #Gasuza to create a special World Gorilla Day Song! Some of the proceeds go to CTPH’s projects on protecting our mountain gorillas.
Speaking about the new campaign, Dr Gladys said, “Never before have we been so acutely aware of the interconnectedness of humans and wildlife as we are now, as we struggle with the COVID-19 pandemic, widely thought to have originated in wet markets where wild animals are kept in dire conditions, and the risk of spillover events is high. It’s time we started thinking about our wildlife and wild areas differently – acknowledging their vital importance in our global biosphere as well as their vital importance to our survival, health and wellbeing. And where better to start than with our closest living non-human relatives – GORILLAS.”
