Book Review
One of the best things an entrepreneur can do is tell her story, and that is what author and mompreneur Shanicia Boswell is doing in My Piece Of The Pie: A Collection of Stories From Black Women Entrepreneurs. When a creator vocalizes how she has turned lemons into lemonade, it will in invigorate another to keep going. My Piece of the Pie delivers eight dynamic experiences and perspectives of entrepreneurship from passionately engaging African American female entrepreneurs. Each author curates a piece of her story to reveal the triumphs and sacrifices to demand her piece of the pie.
Through My Piece Of The Pie, Shanicia believes she and her fellow storytellers are re-writing the American Dream. These stories of failure and triumph allow readers to learn how and what has shaped each one of these women entrepreneurs who are featured to become true Outliers. Shanicia says that each one of them tells a story that could have turned them into the statistics that the world expected them to become. Instead they are rising above those expectations to find success. This is an inspirational collection of stories from those women entrepreneurs who have beaten the odds to reach their goals, as well as those who are still on their journeys to success.

Why LoA loves it….
There is nothing as powerful as hearing the voices of women entrepreneurs sharing their experiences, their insights, their highs and lows on their journeys to building their businesses. It’s how others learn from them, gain inspiration from them, and ultimately follow in their footsteps. Shanicia’s book brings together a collection of powerful voices from women entrepreneurs at all stages of their journeys, and there is something to learn from each of them. This is an honest and insightful selection of stories that will inspire every reader and prove that it is indeed possible to build a business and a slice of the economic pie. — Melanie Hawken, founder & ceo of Lionesses of Africa
