Startup Story
Girl Spectrum is a non-profit organization movement founded by Nicole Natasha Magerman. Nicole founded Girl Spectrum at the age of 25 running it as a labour of love and devotion for gender equality. Girl Spectrum was founded in 2021 and has a world scale vision of creating awareness around not only women empowerment but also building confidence in our women of today. "Self-Care is Health Care", believes Nicole Magerman. As she says, “Feminists, women activists, let us gather here and conquer!”
LoA chatted to founder Nicole Magerman who is definitely an impact driven social entrepreneur on a mission to change attitudes and lives.
What does your company do?
Girl Spectrum is a women empowerment, mental health and self-care forum founded as a movement that embraces and celebrates the feminine essence. The objective of the initiative is to promote and sustain gender equality, confidence building and eliminate limitations set for women based on their gender. Through this project, it is expected that women from different socio-economic backgrounds come together to support and empower each other personally and professionally. We offer programs like Love School (Relationship Forum), Girl Boss (Entrepreneurial Forum), "All About I" (Confidence Building Program), as well as the Steal the Show Program (Artistic Forum).
What inspired you to start your company?
The inspiration to start the Girl Spectrum organization came from our everyday battle in a "Man´s World". Gender equality and gender awareness are very important factors that drive me to keep fighting for woman rights. After all, woman rights are human rights. Early marriage, gender-based violence, inequality in the workplace and pre-defined gender roles all created a drive for change and a new era definition.
Why should anyone use your service or product?
Girl Spectrum is not just a page that posts women empowerment content. Girl Spectrum has programs that build the female leaders of tomorrow and restructures the female leaders of today. Women from all ages and races are encouraged to participate in our programs to help fight this cause together and bring about change.
Tell us a little about your team
Girl Spectrum currently consists of one member only, myself Nicole Magerman, as Founder, Program Coordinator, Liaison Officer and Female Activist.
Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And do you come from an entrepreneurial background?
Girl Spectrum is my first endeavor in the entrepreneurial world. I have started working since the age of 18 and always found myself in the Banking and Finance Industry.
What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?
I envision Girl Spectrum with millions of members, a physical workshop run by all female staff, working with UN Women and major women empowerment organizations in creating awareness and eliminating gender-based violence as well as child marriages. Girl Spectrum aspires to bring about change on a world-wide scale not just in Africa. The vision consists of different female professionals moderating our programs and contributing towards this mission.
What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?
The idea that my success is dependent on my individual work ethics and my vision and that the results are of self-merit.
What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?
Lionesses, stop waiting on way too many things to start. How many times do we drive a car on empty? We drive it to the nearest fuel station. Therefore, don´t wait on money or making time to kick start your journey. Start now and fuel your goals on the way! Remember, hesitation is the mind killer!

Why LoA loves it….
At Lionesses of Africa, we love social entrepreneurs who choose as their mission the empowerment of girls to become the future leaders of tomorrow, and Nicole Magerman is doing just that in Mozambique. Through Girl Spectrum, Nicole is helping girls to build their confidence and realize their goals, encouraging them to fulfill their potential and their dreams. She is helping to identify and support those young women who have their own vision to be tomorrow’s business and social leaders, both at home and across the continent. — Melanie Hawken, founder & ceo of Lionesses of Africa
