The prestigious AfriCannes awards take place each year as part of the annual TBWA Africa conference, an event aimed at celebrating the best creative advertising work to come out that year. The highly talented, woman-owned and run Kampala-based advertising agency in Uganda, Kinaya, scooped its first award. This was the first time that Kinaya had submitted work for consideration at the event because the company has only recently joined the network. The team at Kinaya were very excited and happy to have won a Silver AfriCannes in the category Art Direction in Print, for work done on a campaign Called Pop Art Animals for Ugandan fashion company, Definition Africa.
Kinaya co-Founder, Olga Mugyeni, spoke about the campaign in more detail: “The campaign involved the execution of a series of creative Pop Art inspired designs featuring some of Africa’s most loved animals, and applied to T-Shirts (something Definition Africa is famous for), posters, mugs, and stationery. The proceeds from the sales go to the Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF) as a way of helping conservation efforts in the country - the Foundation aims to safeguard the future wellbeing of these incredible animals.”

Commenting on what the AfriCannes award win means to Kinaya, co-founder Nahida Bhegani said: Kinaya has only been with the TBWA network for six months now, so for us to have won this award within the first year of our affiliation with the network is a huge deal for us. The person who goes through each of the submissions for the AfriCannes is John Hunt, co-founder of Hunt Lascaris and a worldwide creative director for TBWA, so it really is a huge accolade for us at Kinaya. We hope it could possibly open the doors for us to enter more work and set us on our journey to eventually enter the Grand Prix Awards in Cannes.”
