South African eco-fashion and lifestyle brand, LUNAR, led by owner and creative director, Nicola Luther, recently showcased its AutumnWinter2020 collection at SA Fashion Week as part of the Cape Wools & Mohair SA Designer Challenge. Lunar was also selected as winner of this challenge in the Ladies Wear category by an international panel of judges.
Leading designers were nominated by industry leaders in South Africa and invited to anonymously submit their storyboards to a panel of international judges for the Cape Wools and Mohair SA Designer Challenge. Lunar was selected as the winner of the Ladies Wear category for its exciting collection, inspired by the fabrication of wool and mohair, which in turn led to an exploration of shape, size, proportion and texture. LUNAR’s aesthetic is timeless and elegant, but also has strong architectural components. The collection showcases this natural beauty and simplicity but also with slightly unusual elements.
Lunar is a South African eco-fashion and lifestyle brand that has firmly established itself as one of the country’s top design labels over the past two decades. Drawing inspiration from nature and the African landscape, Lunar crafts clothing to be as natural as possible, both in fabrication and in design.
Speaking about the new collection, owner Nicola Luther, said:
“At Lunar, understated and sophisticated styles are meticulously created using only the finest quality natural fibres – fabrics from the earth, with little human interference. While the aesthetic and ethos of Lunar will always endure, we are thrilled to announce a new chapter in this loved and well-respected brand’s life.”
LUNAR collaborated with local shoe brand, House of Cinnamon, founded by Frances Edwards, in order to create the perfect shoes to complement the new collection. This one-off collection of ‘bailey’ shoes will be available online both from House of Cinnamon (https://house-of-cinnamon.co.za/) and LUNAR (https://lunarlife.myshopify.com/)
LUNAR’s clothing is available from their studio at 44 Stanley Avenue, Milpark, Johannesburg, and will also be showcased and on sale at a number of pop-up stores - VY x 44 Pop-Up in Hyde Park, Johannesburg during November and December 2019; Co-Op in Linden, Johannesburg; and The Space in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
