Event report / Lioness Enterprise
At Lionesses of Africa, we know how tough this lockdown has been on women entrepreneurs in our community across the African continent. It’s more critical now than ever that we remain agile to survive and thrive - and importantly to stay connected with each other. So it was exciting to launch the first in a series of special Lioness Enterprise Webinars on Thursday 30 April in partnership with Absa.
Special guest speaker at the event was Bruce Whitfield, the Multi-Award Winning Financial Journalist whose new book, The Upside of Down: How Chaos and Uncertainty Breed Opportunity in South Africa, has just been published. Bruce had some fascinating insights to share with Webinar participants on how their businesses can thrive during these challenging times.
Joining Bruce on the panel at this special event was Lioness Enterprise Ambassador, Nomalanga Sitole who acted as MC for the webinar; Melanie Hawken, founder and ceo of Lionesses of Africa who shared information and feedback on the launch of the new Business Unusual portal; and Tina Playne (Managing Executive, Sector and Segments, Absa Private Wealth and Business Banking) who spoke about initiatives to support entrepreneurs at this time. Bruce answered a series of questions following his insightful presentation, all posed by members of the Lionesses of Africa community who were participating in the event.
Commenting on the first of these Lioness Enterprise Webinar events, Melanie Hawken, founder and ceo of Lionesses of Africa said:
“As a community, we have all missed the opportunity to share, inspire and connect with each other at our regular Lioness Enterprise events across the country, which like many others around the continent have had to be cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, we took a decision with our impact partner Absa to create a virtual event, an informative, inspirational webinar. We were thrilled with the feedback from our community members. As a result, we will be rolling out a series of new webinars over the next few weeks, each one featuring women entrepreneurs who will be sharing their experiences and success stories of keeping going and thriving during this difficult economic period. We hope it will help our incredible women entrepreneurs who have been going through tough times.”
