Speaking about the launch of the new Ledikana golf wear range, founder Mapholo Ratau explains the inspiration behind the new collection, and importantly what makes it different. She says:
“Shortly before the pandemic I decided to play golf. I couldn't wear anything that is not Ledikana style to the golf course and most people admired my African inspired shorts, jumpsuits and skirts. These are cute colourful garments that make you feel comfortable when you swing on the course, and also for drinks and dinner after a round. I even designed a golf range Ledikana fabric that is inspired by the bushmen (Khoisan) sticks from the Northern Cape. With the prints we make exciting garments and gifting accessories for golfers inspired by Khoisan tribe.”
The new Ledikana golf wear range of products is now available in its stores at Melrose Arch and OR Tambo stores in Johannesburg. In addition, the new accompanying gifting range consists of champagne bags, bags and shoe bags for golfers. This is an exciting addition to the existing and much-loved range of Ledikana clothing and accessories.
From a design perspective, Mapholo explains that this eye-catching new range is inspired by the Bushmen Khoisan tribe. Their sticks symbolise the golf clubs. During Covid, Mapholo designed these new fabrics for the golf wear range, with her inspiration coming from the sticks the Khoisan people carry as their tradition. This to Mapholo depicted Golf Clubs (sticks) and the beautiful landscapes in the country, combined with healing elements. Mapholo adds:
“I love Golf, it heals my soul. With all the trauma we South Africans or the whole world endured during the Pandemic, and even now, with the challenges we are facing. This is just another way to ask God for healing and hope as we walk the beautiful Golf Courses of our country.”
