For most citizens of the world, we reeled with shock when the beautiful Amazon forest was burning for more than 60 days. The #Amazonforest is the lungs of our planet our survival pumps! As usual, everybody started pointing fingers and most of us could just watch, capable of doing nothing. A sick feeling of despair as we watched the destruction.
After an ordeal like this we all go back to our childhood memories or books and read up about camping, barbecues, braais, open fires at the lodges and we ensure that we know what we need to do just in case we are in the open.
Here are a few open fire tips:
● Always watch the fire. ● Make sure you completely let it burn out when the wind starts blowing. A strong wind quickly becomes a firestorm. ● Never leave igniters (any kind) lying around. ● Cool the fire off with water before you go to bed or before you leave the campsite. ● Be careful not to step on hot coals so make a circle around an open fire- kids and animals might still want to sit around the fire. ● Keep the young ones away. ● When it does jump into a tree take hands, get buckets and start to take the fire out until help arrives. ● Never run anywhere… you don’t want to be caught in a fire that turns… ● Don’t make a fire close to the sleeping quarters.
Let’s take the concept to our personal lives.
The news is jam packed with ladies and children being killed. Any harm brings total devastation. People are shot at from buses on a normal day. Therefore, as women we have to be alert and check out any possible “fires” around us. Don’t play with anything that is not “good” not for yourself or your children or your family.
Watch the winds of change and don’t get caught up in a crossfire that turned. During a big mountain or berg or veld fire like we call it here in South Africa, people know something is going on before you even smell the smoke. You will see little wild animals running in all directions for dear life. They KNOW the signs. They run to get away in time.
What about a smouldering fire warning at your company? This time I am not referring to literal fire but more to the one where the money in, is less than the money out? Staff make mistakes, the economy is tough, expenses go up, it is tough to pay bills and salaries or wages?
See it as your fire alarm.
We go back to what we have learned about a fire.
● Check the fire all the time ● Make sure you can control it still ● Look out for side winds- make plans and get procedures in place or contracts, paperwork anything to keep your side clean. People live to point fingers at “who started this whole mess”! ● As soon as you can get that fire out! ● If it means staff, so be it, you have to save the bigger “world” of your company. ● Don’t run away - face the storm. When it’s over you are there to jump right back in. ● Don’t get caught in someone else’s crossfire. ● Keep your head down and get out of there.
Here are some financial tips:
When there is a fire in the economy something is going to tighten up - mostly our belts. The currencies might fluctuate, to buy from other countries might be a bigger challenge due to trade wars, but heck, we as women have always survived. So, keep your eyes and ears open. New opportunities might even come your way. Watch the economic figures; the interest rates; the petrol prices, etc.
Don’t throw any savings money into the work fund yet, make double sure that your assets are protected against fire ... that is you included... Get the best risk management product for your personal and work fires.
On a last note, any hurt animal, human or company can grow back skin from a big burning disaster. You might be that person who will then help and change people's lives... Remember Picketfence.Life can help with CA assistance, law assistance, personal finances, company paperwork, even CCM cases.
Don’t try to fire walk!
