This month saw the much-anticipated launch of a wonderful new online platform, created as a destination for all organizations that serve women and girls. It is an online community where they can share stories, ideas, best practices and materials with each other, with the goal of strengthening a global community focused on enabling women and girls to thrive. WomenStrong International’s new online platform can be found at www.womenstrong.org.
LoA found out more about this powerful new platform and what it is looking to achieve.
"WomenStrong International is an inspirational consortium of nonprofit organizations dedicated to empowering women and girls as the drivers of enduring change in their own lives, families and communities, with the aim of eradicating extreme urban poverty worldwide."
WomenStrong International is an inspirational consortium of nonprofit organizations dedicated to empowering women and girls as the drivers of enduring change in their own lives, families and communities, with the aim of eradicating extreme urban poverty worldwide. Its current focus is on those issues in which WomenStrong is working to eradicate poverty, including: health & wellness, protection, education, economic empowerment, housing urban infrastructure and the environment. This month, its new online platform was launched - it provides a powerful mechanism for individuals and organisations to find out more about the work of WomenStrong International, and is an invaluable resource. It is rich in stories, reports, tools and strategies written by members of the consortium’s global team and importantly by the women themselves. Content on the platform is organized by project, and currently includes information on the five WomenStrong Consortium organizations in India, Ghana, Kenya, Haiti and the United States - and also by issue area.
www.womenstrong.org is a real destination site and community, and its ethos is centred on the power of sharing stories, reports, best practices and resources openly within the community.

At LoA, we loved the content emanating from Africa, and in particular the story features on the inspirational Alice Visionary Foundation Project in Kenya, founded to help those directly affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in western Kenya’s Amilo Village. The project has now expanded to work with underserved women and girls in the largest informal settlement in the nearby city of Kisumu. Look out for LoA’s forthcoming feature article on the Project’s Director, the wonderful Beldina Opiyo-Omolo and check out the project website - www.Alicevisionary.org Also, take a look at Women’s Health to Wealth, the story of an amazing initiative aimed at helping women traders and adolescent girls prioritize their personal health, wellbeing, savings and social capital, for the betterment of their families and communities in Ghana. Read all about the work of its project director, Abenaa Akuamoa-Boateng and her team at whwghana.org

Why LoA loves it….
At LoA, we are passionate about supporting organisations that are dedicated to improving the lives and prospects for women here in Africa, and around the world. WomenStrong International is just such an organisation, bringing together organizations, business and community leaders to help empower women and girls to become the drivers of enduring change in their own lives, families and communities. By doing so, they are real Changemakers and can make a positive and lasting contribution to eradicating extreme urban poverty in the world, thereby giving hope of a better life for so many people. Truly inspirational! --- Melanie Hawken, founder and editor-in-chief of Lionesses of Africa
