The challenge for any young woman fashion designer just starting out is finding effective ways of getting their brands and their clothes out into the marketplace and connecting with customers. South African entrepreneur, Thandiwe Makhanya, and her company A.T.L Events and Promotions, which specialises in creating, managing and executing brand awareness events, campaigns as well as promotions, has found a solution.

Tell us about your new initiative for young designers in South Africa
A.T.L Events and Promotions is proud to be launching an exciting new event, to be held in February next year, that will give young South African fashion designers a showcase to give their brands critical and positive exposure in an affordable way. This new initiative also provides an opportunity for these young fashion talents to sell their designs using a new online store which is due for launch at the end of October this year.
Share more details with us about the fashion events themselves.
To kick start the initiative, a series of showcase fashion shows will be launched early in 2016. The first show will take place in February next year and will be specifically for lingerie, swimwear, sleepwear and underwear. Interestingly, lingerie is an untapped market for a lot of South African designers. The second event will be in November and will be for evening wear, street wear, casual and formal wear. Designers are welcome to participate in both events, especially if they are looking to broaden their clientele base. All items from and before the fashion show will be made available on our online store.
“We understand how costly it is to create and host your own online store. So we are seeking designers that are looking to be a part of this project, expecially those based in Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa.”
- Thandiwe Makhanya, founder of A.T.L Events and Promotions
