“We believe that design can solve stubborn problems and thus we started with a major issue in Egypt: waste.”
- Mariam Hazem is co-founder of Reform Studio in Egypt, an eco-design practice producing furniture and woven textiles from discarded plastic materials. The concept behind Reform Studio in Egypt all started with a plastic bag, with its founders, Mariam Hazem and Hend Riad, believing that design can solve stubborn problems and thus it started from a major issue in Egypt: waste. One experiment after another, and after many design proposals, the duo came up with the company’s first product ‘Plastex’. Plastex is a new eco-friendly material made by weaving discarded plastic bags. More about Mariam.
