During any trip in nature so many things can happen. We have all watched movies of the unforeseen or the accident waiting to happen. We have also witnessed nail gripping stuff of someone who cannot hold their grip in certain circumstances.
During my #Junglewealth series I focus on this particular month as Sliptember. Let’s go back to our journey through nature to get some perspective on this subject. We have all started off fresh and excited with our visions and our goals firmly written down and we have focused on the destination. We have learned that we should always keep an eye on the end destination but also be aware of the journey right in front of us.
We have been through many tough areas and at each basecamp we discussed the lessons learned. How nature shows us the secrets of building wealth, for example, they also have assets and we looked at how animals do budgeting for tough times. We have learned to listen to the expedition leader as the most important person during our trip.
As we carry on with this journey we get the hang of things and we get into our own settled pace of walking. Then one day we don’t see that bend in the road, or the steep slippery slope and we go down. Focus is lost for a short while and you find yourself hanging by your fingertips and seriously need someone to help.
As the year speeds on we get so involved in the everyday survival that we lose focus or concentration. As entrepreneurs, we get stuck in once again on the small stuff that we should get others to do. Or something really important slips our mind - an important document, contract, a Will that needs to be done, and the list goes on.
Once someone has pulled you up, you feel like kicking yourself. You had this! Why did you not think of the issue sooner? How did this happen??? Why did this slip your mind? Many business owners drag through September either because they spend hours on admin or they have so many orders that they cannot get to the other important issues like working on your business rather than in it!
Another gremlin and a BIG one when the money is tight at these times is that the blurred lines start to happen - personal money and business money is used where money is needed! That is waiting for the cliff!
Take a look around, put down your backpack and make sure the GPS is still on and no nasty cliffs are around the corner. After this it is plain sailing to the next basecamp. Debt vs wealth building.
Use this month as a perspective check on what still needs to be done before it’s too late - or at least start with the goal that is still on the shelf.
