The renowned and fast growing Loshes Chocolate, a bean-to-bar, single-origin, craft chocolate processing company in Lagos, Nigeria, is expanding its range to include some exciting new chocolate bars and gift boxes. Founded by entrepreneur, Femi Oyedipe, the company is building a reputation for its production of fine chocolates and baking products for both individual and commercial consumers.
Loshes Chocolate sources cocoa beans from the South West of Nigeria which undergo 9 stage processing to create fine chocolates and chocolate baking products. Cocoa beans are purchased at a fair price from the farmer’s cooperative at the price stipulated which is a dollar-naira conversion of the ICCO price. Loshes Chocolate products are made from a single origin of cocoa beans without preservatives or additives, hence represent a portion of the craft, healthy and high quality chocolate industries. Most of the company’s machines and associated equipment are designed and fabricated locally towards sustainable growth across sectors.
Speaking about what inspired her to start the company, founder Femi Oyedipe, said:
“To end poverty, there is a need for sustained growth and capacity development in our communities. Cocoa is a cash crop and as with most local raw resources we are only able to trade it in raw forms hereby realizing lower margins. As part of intentional effort to make our world a better place by not only ending poverty, promoting gender equality, good health and wellbeing, an outfit that will process Cocoa into Chocolate and add value across the entire chocolate making value chain is a solution to bridge this gap and Loshes Chocolate was birthed.”
What makes the Loshes Chocolate brand so different is that it prides itself on its origins, traceability, clean labelling and artisanal approach. The company’s main advantage in the marketplace is the blend of engineering and art that goes to make its chocolates. It started with manufacturing equipment that enables the company to be a truly autonomous chocolate factory where it completely processes its cocoa to produce single origin chocolates utilizing locally available resources. All the steps of chocolate production including packaging are done locally in the Loshes Chocolate factory.
Femi Oyedipe adds:
“We have flexibility in our manufacturing lines and complete control of the quality of our products which took extensive research and testing to formulate. We also offer factory tours to transparently show all the processes of how chocolate, and specifically our range of chocolates, are made. This has given us the credibility as a true bean-to-bar single origin chocolate maker.”
The Loshes Chocolate factory and its products are made to food safety industry best practices and the company has NAFDAC Market Authorization to retail its diverse range of specialist chocolate products. Loshes Chocolate prides itself on its workforce, a diverse team of 10 persons mostly women from several ethnic groups in Nigeria. The company has people trained in specific functions across the manufacturing process, allowing for consistency and mastery.
In terms of future plans and aspirations for the company, by 2021 the aim is to achieve green production thinking and circular environment where nothing is wasted; and a plan to export to the UK, Asia and EU.
