Seeing a gap in the marketplace in Mozambique, entrepreneur Mónica de Sousa Mahanjane has launched a new accessory brand, Pretoóla, with a range of stylish ties, berets and lapels in stylish designs, complete with matching masks.
Entrepreneur Mónica de Sousa Mahanjane is a young 21 year old business builder who started out on her entrepreneurial journey at the age of 17, when she sold chestnuts in stylish, handcrafted packaging. Today, she is taking all those early business experiences and bringing them to the launch of her new business venture, Pretoóla, a new accessory brand, which went live on June 23, 2020. Pretoóla offers a range of fashionable ties, berets, lapels, and matching masks for those customers who want to stay safe yet look stylish too. The Pretoóla range of accessories come in a variety of fabric colors. The ties are accompanied by matching masks and are packed in handcrafted, branded wooden boxes for that extra sense of gifting style.
Speaking about the inspiration to launch this new business, Mónica says it started with an entrepreneurial dream to create an accessory brand, but was driven by a desire to meet the need for masks in the country. Today, she is offering both stylish accessories and matching masks that give wearers a sense of safety and style.
The Pretoóla team is made up of tailors and dressmakers, as well as brand promoters who help with sales and marketing. In terms of founder Mónica de Sousa Mahanjane’s entrepreneurial background, she has been through a series of training programmes through the Standard Bank Incubator in Mozambique.
Monica’s future aspirations include opening retail stores in Mozambique, Paris and the Diaspora. She says what gives her the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur is to take a dream and make it a reality, whilst at the same time helping others. She believes that the best satisfaction comes from seeing someone smile when they experience the Pretoóla range of products for themselves. Monica’s advice to other entrepreneurs who want to follow in her footsteps is simple - she says, “Believe in your dreams ... and make them a purpose for your purposes.”
