Impact Partner Content - Absa
Lucia Molefe is the founder of Mokgalaka Creations. She was always good with her hands and had a passion for making cakes and cooking, as she would make the occasional cake and platter for friends and family. In 2006, Lucia embraced this skillset and registered Mokgalaka Creations as a business. Immediately, she began taking cake designing and decoration classes after working hours to sharpen her God-given talent. During this time, she began growing her home-based business part-time. In 2008, Mokgalaka Creations had begun taking off. It was in this year that she resigned after 15 years of service with the Department of Social Development to focus full-time on her passion and her business.
Mokgalaka Creations is one of the 117 businesses from across South Africa currently being showcased at the Absa Lionesses Xpo. Founder Lucia Molefe shares her inspirational entrepreneurial journey and her vision for the business in the future.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And do you come from an entrepreneurial background?
I have always had a dream to become an entrepreneur in the food industry, with a particular focus in baking and food preparation. During my previous role as a social worker, I gained a lot of experience in serving and helping people in coping with psycho-socio problems and I wished to continue to do so but in a different way.
My passion and attention to detail led to me teaching myself how to make custom artistic cakes by reading books and experimenting with recipes.
What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?
My plans are to get a bigger operating space in a commercially viable area.
What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?
Happy customers.
What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?
Have Passion. Research the industry you want to pursue. Start networking.
