Many employers and managers underestimate just how much employees are struggling with their well-being: According to a recent Deloitte survey, one out of three employees and executives reported struggling with fatigue and mental health - and it's only continuing to get worse.
Just last week I was chatting to a senior executive who shared that it was normal for him to work 7 days a week and late into the evenings. While I understand that he has a senior role, at the same time the cost to his family and wellbeing is evident.
The nature of the employee-employer relationship is shifting and many are asking themselves some poignant questions such as:
What does happiness look like for me?
Do I feel fulfilled as a professional?
Am I giving more at work than I’m getting in return?
Is this work environment and leadership style for me?
This presents a significant chance for employers to create compelling incentives for employees to remain with their organisation. By engaging in genuine conversations with your workforce, you can collaboratively design mutually satisfying experiences that not only endure, but also grow in value through reciprocal appreciation.
People work better when they are well and satisfied and can see a path to growth and development.
This is a gap that highly sensitive leaders (i.e. empathetic leaders) can fill by tapping into their natural empathy and heightened awareness of others’ emotions.
By creating a collaborative work culture, we create a more engaged and productive workforce that will benefit the organisation and bottom line in the long run.
When last did you perform a climate survey amongst your people and do you know how they really feel?
When last did you look at your wellbeing stats and which services are being utilised the most?
When last did you review your leadership development programs and do the provide for the key leadership skills and competencies of the future?
We'd love to help you facilitate connection by building engaged employees, engaged leader, resulting in more productive and engaged organisations.
Warmly
Paula
