I find contentment to be a very powerful ability, but yet difficult to practice. I have seen the absence of contentment leave many people in an unhealthy “life-race”, wanting to compete and compare with people they don’t even know. Instead of looking back and appreciating how far they have come and pacing themselves well for the future, they are constantly chasing the next biggest thing at whatever cost.
For me, contentment is about being pleased and satisfied with what I have achieved, and acknowledging that while I might not be where I want to be, I am also not where I used to be.
It’s about being happy with what I have, who I am, and where I am currently. It is respecting the reality of my current season. It is an attitude of gratitude and gratefulness.
This doesn’t mean that I have no desires to do and get better, but while I pursue my goals and dreams I choose to be content.
So let us practice and build our contentment muscle and close it off with the following quote:
“It is not being out at heels that makes a man discontented, it is being out at heart. To be contented is to be good friends with yourself.”
Have a fantastic week ahead.
