We all get excited about any journey be it a holiday, a trip to family or that big jump into the entrepreneurial space. We have established the journey and the destination, we feel motivated. So what must we still sort out? Your head!
Let’s take a look at nature again. During a trip many things can go wrong. A big storm hits the camp, you get lost because you drifted away from the group. A couple of elephants or lions pay a visit. If we consider the “Survivor” series on TV we saw how emotions quickly get the winning hand and people are at each other’s throats. During any trip people can quickly become emotionally uncontrollable due to fear and uncertainty. No guide wants an easy ‘tripper” in their group. It will influence the whole group. That is why they ask you questions before you embark on a long journey. Can you handle it?
Emotional wellbeing has been proven to be one of the most important driving aspects for people to survive severe exposure to nature or natural disasters. The better you can handle stress, think clearly, and make good decisions, the likelier you are to reach the other side. Most of us had parents or grandparents that taught us these lessons in emotional wellbeing, whilst others around us are “the Walking dead”, hoping to survive yet another day.
Your business will not survive an emotional unbalanced, unhealthy mindset. We know that. The very same is just as important for your money. I have met many clients that can easily freak out about the chaos in their finances – “jumping off a cliff “sounds such a good solution. Sadly many people have indeed chosen this path. Or they feel lost about their personal finances, it is a total mess - at least at work is a bookkeeper. They start running in circles and get deeper and deeper into trouble.
Research has proven the “moneytalk” that we have heard as kids can influence our emotions towards money. “Money don’t grow on trees,” it’s the root of all evil”, “you are not supposed to keep it all to yourself”, “how do you ever think you will make money with that job”, “I will never be rich”… Sound familiar?
Think back - what was programmed in your mind by parents, society and the likes? Understand, none of this programming was maliciously intended, it comes through many generations. If your own financials look terrible don’t despair, you are not alone.
As in the bush so in the world, there is always a great expedition guide that will bring you back to camp. Think clearly, find the closest path and start calling – they are already searching for you.
