Inside the Gahaya Links workshop on the outskirts of Kigali, Rwanda's capital, a group of women sit side by side against a brightly-painted wall. Using natural fibers and grasses, they pool their weaving skills to create exquisite hand-made baskets, inspired by the eastern African country's art and tradition.

My Africa drops in on Bilikiss Abiola, one of the founders of WeCyclers, a social enterprise that has involved an entire community in recycling plastic waste, that would usually end up on the streets and gutters of Lagos. WeCyclers creates an incentive for the community to recycle plastics in order to create a clean environment.

The Ford Foundation today announced a program of special grants and activities to celebrate its 50th anniversary working in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The centerpiece of the program is a $2 million grant for the Tuvuke Initiative for Peaceful and Fair Electoral Process in Kenya—a national campaign being undertaken by a diverse group of 17 Kenyan NGOs and coordinated by Kenya Women Holding, a longstanding grantee of the foundation.
