For this Women’s Month 2019, I had a couple of ideas to share with you, but then I read an article about probably the strongest pack of ladies that one could find in the wild. The South African Wild dog. For many uninformed readers they are just horrific predators that kill in the most gruesome ways possible. Here in Africa, we hope to conserve them as they are an extremely endangered species and nature needs them for the proper circle of life.
For this particular blog I thought to take you through some pointers to think about - about yourself in your role in your business, company, and even family.
The Instagram world is filled with pictures of Me’s and a good amount of underlying messages about who and what I am, where I am, look at me! Now don’t get me wrong, life is fun and can be shared, but if you focus on ME you forget the rest quickly. We get absorbed by our own self. What did I achieve, look how many Likes I get daily, etc… maybe not all of us…..just painting a story here...
Let’s get back to our South African Wild Dog pack.
The structure is such that serving is a much higher job or responsibility than bringing in the “wealth” , which by the way is daily food. They have solid structures in place on who does what, make turns to do the job and most of all their main focus is solidly on their actual wealth… their pups.
Everything they do, every decision, is based on the survival of the pups. They decide when to move dens, when to hunt for more food than usual, who will be the server today and who will be the server tomorrow? By serving, I mean the one staying behind, no adrenaline rush for them today...no hype of the kill. Just looking after the babies. As you know that alone is a handful in big packs. Your ears are nibbled, you become a jumping castle, no sleep-in sight and you have to make sure that one doesn’t wander off too far. Bottom line, you serve.
What is so amazing is that when the group gets back, someone takes over from you and at last you can have your fill! Those who give receive!
Now bring this example into your business world.
Are you the Alpha dog - doing everything, running the pack, sorting out all the issues, and still have time for that Instagram pic daily? Do your employees hang around at the den and just do the bare minimum… for now because you battle to share? Maybe not or you might say an immediate NO! Take a little time to think. Who serves in your company, why do they serve, and do you serve? Not often but daily?
Have you ever listened to wild dogs? They are so much like women, chatting all the time! But between all of that commotion there is order. Order brings plans, well executed plans, and that brings in the kill (money in our world) and that feeds the company so that it can grow and herein lies the wealth - growth! Then only can my company really start creating wealth for me and the families working for me.
So ok, you are the Alpha and you started the company, and you know best, and you have to be out there, and you know your turf, and you worked this up from the ground, and you get burnout… or else you don’t see growth, real big stash wealth growth? So you have to keep on going out there because who else will? Have you ever asked, trained, upskilled anyone?
Because if we understand the power of unity and the power of serving together for the greater good of our company, we will understand sometimes everyone gets an opportunity to stay and serve so that we all learn and experience the true meaning of being in this together.
Once you, as a business owner, grasp this concept that it is ok to not run in the front all the time and that it is ok to be serving for a change, your company will grow.
Our pack of dogs move yearly to greener pastures, away from parasites and other predators, but mostly because the den is too small. Now that's what I call wealth - a growing company!
Happy Women’s Month ladies.
Till next week
